Book Queue

Since I started working, life seems to go in busy and not busy spurts. The last month and a bit has been a busy spurt, yet I’ve still been acquiring books.

My book club is reading “The Solitude of Prime Numbers” by Paolo Giordano for our meeting on Monday, so I ordered that off Amazon last week. I’m still trying to decide whether I should set aside the book that I am currently reading, “The Postmistress” by Sarah Blake, so that I can read the book club book by Monday. I’m pretty sure that at this point, I can’t finish both and I probably won’t finish “The Postmistress” that soon since my bus ride to work is pretty short.

I haven’t re-signed up for an Amazon Prime account, so I needed to buy something extra with “The Solitude of Prime Numbers” in order to get free super saver shipping. I finally picked up a copy of “Bilingual First Language Acquisition” by Annick De Houwer. I used this book for my Linguistics paper in the fall term and it was absolutely enthralling and I kept meaning to buy a copy of it so I could finish it and I finally got around to it! Hopefully I don’t take too long to start on this one because it’s an exciting one. Last, but not least, when I was browsing the offer page for her BLFA book, I also stumbled upon “An Introduction to Bilingual Development”.

I also picked up quite a few French books during my recent travels, the first two which I have already finished:

As you can see, I had fun wandering around bookstores in France, just like I do at home, though I seem to buy more books off Amazon than from wandering around a bookstore these days. I tried to buy novels spanning various genres. I wasn’t particular about whether the novels were written in French originally – just that they weren’t written in English originally. Translations from other European languages were acceptable because it’s still reading French, which is the point of this exercise, and that will expose me to other authors who I wouldn’t otherwise learn about.

Clearly I need to stop buying books and finish some of these. My “to read” queue is growing way quicker than I can empty it! I think I might also need to invest in a second bookshelf eventually to house these.
